Sine, Cosine and Tangent – Trig Function

Right Triangle

There are three main functions that you have to used in trigonometry and these are called Sine, Cosine, and Tangent. All these trig functions are based on a Right-Angled Triangle. In this article, we will help you to memorize all of them easily.

Before learning the trigonometry functions, we point out the name to each side of a right triangle :

Sine, Cosine and Tangent

Sine, Cosine and Tangent

Sine (often shortened to sin) is the ratio of the opposite side of the triangle to the hypotenuse.

sinCosine (often shortened to cos) is equal to the adjacent over the hypotenuse.

cos
Similarly, the tangent (often shortened to tan) is equal to the opposite side over the adjacent.
